In April of last year Springhead collaborated with writer/producer Alexei Slater, and Turn the Slate Productions, on comedy short Great Dane. With Springhead’s James Webber and Lorenzo Levrini as director and DoP, the film stars Maddie Rice and Tom Machell as two disparate souls who come together on one strange day in the park, with neither seeming to be quite who they claim to be…
Since completion in the Summer of 2017, the film has been on the festival circuit for the last 7 months and has already had some great screenings. Its festival debut was at The Crystal Palace International Film Festival in November of 2017; it then went on the screen at British Shorts Berlin, Crossroads Film Festival, Mississippi and Sunderland Shorts Film Festival. In April of 2018 Great Dane was screened at the Oscar-qualifying Athens International Film and Video Festival in the US, which was a huge achievement for the team.
Great Dane’s next screening will be at Short Sighted Cinema’s Shortest Nights Film Festival, on June 17th at the Yard Theatre, Hackney Wick. The film will be shown during the ‘Comedy Roulette’ programme from 8:45pm. You can book tickets for the screening here.
We had a great time making this quirky short, so we are thrilled to see it doing so well on the festival circuit! You can take a peek at the fun we had below, with these fantastic behind-the-scenes shots by Daniel D. Moses.
